Miffy is designed with respect to the ‘quivering line’ of Dick Bruna, Miffy’s spiritual father, so the eyes are deliberately not 100% clean cut.
What is striking is that the lines that Bruna draws with his brush are frayed to the viewer under a magnifying glass. You must have what he calls a certain ‘shivering’: “It’s about a certain tremor. A good line has a good tremor. But I find that good tremor the hardest. The artist is hidden in that tremor.”
